This is Tony's story. He finally gets his happy ever after!
He first appears as Kev's best friend in the Kev, adventures in dating...in heels series. Back in the 90s when that series is set, he works in TK Maxx, is a big Human League fan and endlessly unlucky in love. He's the perfect counterbalance to Kev's sometimes over the top escapades in that series. Tony also features in the ensemble story, The Regiment of Majestic Gays, when the men meet for Kieran's 36th birthday. While I'm talking about Kieran, he first appears in his own series, also set in the nineties, the first part is Kieran's Out. Anyway, during that weekend for Kieran's birthday, Tony's date turns out badly and he decides to stop dating, stop hooking up and go completely off men. Except he's developing a friendship with a colleague, Nick. Tony wants more than friendship with Nick because they get on so well and he thinks they are attracted to one another. By his thirties, Tony is a social worker, and performs a drag act, linked to his obsession with The Human League, by night. I'd left his story there, and then I decided after years of dreadful boyfriends, hookups and generally being unlucky with men, Tony deserved his own happy ever after. So I wrote Don't You Want Me. Obviously the title is linked to the Human League song, because Tony's always been a massive fan, turning to their songs for inspiration when he's unsure where to go in life. Readers, I wrote it! Don't You Want Me, is here for your enjoyment! I hope you enjoy spending time with Tony and Nick as they work hard for their happy ever after. Lots of love and light, Liam Livings xx I'm really pleased to announce Tony's story, Don't You Want Me, is out!
Tony Looking for love in all the wrong places. Toe-curling, guilt-laden sex with ‘married men seeking discreet fun’. Why doesn’t anyone want a social worker by day, drag queen by night and a Human League fan all day long? He deletes the hook-up apps, swears off men. Mentoring Nick, they move beyond friendship. Forced to share a hotel room, Nick’s mixed signals point towards one conclusion. (Hint: it’s well beyond professional.) Nick Recently single, he’s trying to work out who he is without his ex-boyfriend, who told Nick he’s too this, not enough that, being gay in the wrong way. His career gives him purpose, direction. Yet he wants more from Tony than an employee should from his boss. After their passionate night, he needs more than friendship—f**k buddies…or forever boyfriends. (Hint: it’s well beyond physical.) Except Tony’s sworn off men… Don’t You Want Me is a friends-to-lovers, forced-proximity, boss/employee gay romance featuring more emotional baggage than allowed by most airlines, lots of kissing and more, plus a guaranteed happy ever after. You won't want to miss this one, so grab yourself a copy now! This is Bjorn's story. He finally gets his happy ever after. It's festive, it's romantic, it's opposites attract, it's sensual...
The title is from a classic Steps song because Fabian, the other main character in the story, is in a pop group called Moves, which sings and dances cheesy pop music. When I have a blurb, I'll share it. Meanwhile, here's the fabulous cover! The start of story, was something I witnessed, while sitting outside a pub one summer in a market square in Truro, a city in Cornwall. It was actually two female friends who were having a great time drinking and laughing and one of them had to disappear into the pub to start her shift only to reappear shortly afterward having been sacked by the chef. I did what I always do, I loitered with intent, as I believe all good authors should.
I like to base my stories on a strong friendship at their core. I asked myself what if this were two gay men who were friends, and one of them had just lost his job, at the same time as being dumped by his boyfriend? I also think Christmas, as well as bringing out the best in people, can also bring out the worst. At Christmas I often meet friends of friends, or distant family members of other relatives who’ve been invited for the day rather than being alone at Christmas. I imagined what would be really bad at this time of year for someone who was really close to his family. I think Christmas is a good opportunity to throw together people who wouldn’t otherwise meet because people who find themselves alone are usually offered a place at the Christmas table. This, obviously, was a great jumping off point for a story. Do you see yourself in any of your characters? I think there’s a little bit of myself in all my characters. Toby, fabulous, camp, OTT, loud and bright, he’s nothing like me at all! I can’t imagine where I got my inspiration for him from? He was such a joy to write – I simply imagined what I’d say if I were always a little bit drunk – you know that one and a half glasses of wine stage where you’re not really pissed but you think you’re hilarious and don’t care what anyone else things. Well, that’s Tony. And the thing is sometimes that’s what a friend needs to tell another. Christian is quite a damaged person at the start. The way his family and ex boyfriend have treated him is terrible. Isn’t it funny (not) how sometimes in life when you’re down Life just kicks you in the teeth again? Well, that’s how Christian feels at the start. Some of his behaviour when he’s in a relationship may or may not have been broadly based on what I was like when I’d been single for a while. Shame! I won’t say much more because...spoilers. David, I suppose, is a sort of wish-fulfillment of the sort of man I’d like to be: large, imposing, outwardly confident, very masculine (in the traditional sense of the word – I think masculinity is much more complex than playing sport and bottling up your emotions, but any more of that’s not for now). Sometimes I wish I were more like David but then again I think, I would be me. In addition to wish-fulfillment, he’s also the sort of guy I find attractive, so that was fun to write: the strong silent protecting type. Yummy! Cathy is the lynch pin between David and Christian, bringing them together through work and friendship. She, may or may not have been inspired in a very positive way by a certain author friend’s certain daughter who I met at UK Meet. She inspired me with her organisational skills and upbeat attitude towards life, that I simply had to put a version of her in Serendipity series of novellas. I told both Author Mother and Daughter and sent them both a copy of the first novella. One of her favourite sayings is: live your life. As long as it’s not illegal or harming anyone (including yourself) then whatever makes you happy – you should live your life. I often say this to friends who are having a dither about whether to do something or not, or whether they should enjoy something or not. Just live your life. I suppose it’s a variation on ‘be yourself because everyone else is taken’ which is another great maxim by which to live. Love and light, Liam Livings xx Grab yourself a copy as it's almost half price until it's released on 4th December: mybook.to/CCBoyfriend I usually play bingo for how many pages into my books until there's a Julia Roberts reference. Imagining a self help book in the style of Eat Pray Love, or maybe a character dancing to 'Runaround Sue' as happens in Sleeping With The Enemy. Or perhaps the small town vibe of Mystic Pizza...
Because, for the avoidance of doubt. I. Love. Her. Literally any film she's been in. Notting Hill, Mother's Day, Erin Brockervitch are some of my faves. But I digress... So I was speaking to an author friend as she was writing a rent boy romance. It's gritty and urban and goes into the darker side of escorting and she added, 'It's not like a gay romance version of Pretty Woman,' she told me. To which I thought, well wouldn't it be interesting to write a gay romance inspired by Pretty Woman, that was really festive and sparkly and felt like a proper real life fairytale? Readers, I wrote it! You don't want to miss this. Grab yourself a copy. Who wants another slice of festive romantic joy?
Available for pre-order now at this discounted price (approx 40% off). Once it's live on 4th December, it'll go up to its normal price. This has been such fun to revisit. David I’ve split-up with my out-of-work, cheating boyfriend. Missing the familiarity of spending Christmas with someone, I'm staying with friends and escaping my sadness in the gym. Except I didn’t bank on slim, shy and oh-so-broken Christian. Rejected by his homophobic parents and uncommitted boyfriend, he’s spending Christmas with us too. He's suggested how to forget our hurts, which has me hot and tempted, but I've sworn off men. Anyway, he’s far too good for me. A whizz in the kitchen, he has too much sass and is everything my ex-boyfriend wasn’t. I'm absolutely not imagining us making a life together. I’m definitely staying single. Coincidental Christmas Boyfriend is a steamy, opposites attract, Christmas gay romance. It covers David and Christian’s first and second Christmases, and their year between as they overcome family prejudice and personal demons. Originally released in 2013-2014 as three novellas called Christmas Serendipity, Serendipity Develops and The Next Christmas, it’s revised and enhanced, with approximately 23% extra content. The plot, characters and setting remain the same. Grab yourself a copy: mybook.to/CCBoyfriend This is available now, 50% off if you grab it on pre-order. Then it'll go up to normal price.
This was SO MUCH FUN to write! If Pretty Woman and a Christmas movie had a gay romance love-child... Matt An escort who thought 25 would be easier than this. When not working hard, he switches off from men using him. Behind with his rent, he can’t refuse a client, a silver-fox TV personality, almost twice his age, who wants him for the Christmas holidays. Except he can’t switch off from Grant. Grant Divorced at 45, disillusioned with his TV career and the media’s intrusion into his personal life, he faces Christmas alone in a hotel. After decades of denial he’s ready to explore his sexuality, but is unprepared for a man his son’s age who sets his blood pumping and senses soaring. Silver Daddy, Jingle Bells is a steamy age gap gay romance, featuring opposites attract, bisexual awakenings and more festive sparkle than you can shake a large Christmas tree at. Please note: Grant and Matt go on a voyage of emotional discovery which they very much need to have sex about. You don't want to miss this. Grab yourself a copy. 2020 has been a challenge, to say the least. Some days I just can not. People are putting up their Christmas decorations in November. Fair play to them. People are getting married on Zoom (who'd even heard of Zoom in February?)
So I want to spread some joy. All the joy. All over the internet. So I'm trying to make #Davidember a thing. I recently discovered Schitt's Creek and the absolutely fabulous joy that is David Rose. Consequently, I've been gradually using more and more David Rose GIFs on the socials. Because he's fabulous. That, as they say, is all. So, for no other reason than I think it'll be fun, I've declared December as #Davidember. The rules are simple:
That's it. *You can also click on the GIF and write a description of it, which means blind people who use screen readers to access social media, can read it too. You do this by clicking the 'Alt' button that hovers above the GIF you've selected or the 'add description' button just below the GIF. This means more people can bask in the glory that is David Rose! It would be lovely if you joined in and maybe we can make #Davidember a thing. If not I shall enjoy it. Lots of love and light, Liam Livings xx Last year, I watched about a dozen of those made for TV Christmas movies. Quite a few of them featured royalty and were set in fictional European countries. I really binged and enjoyed them. I also read a male female royal romance and some male male romances featuring royalty. I was hooked. So I decided to write my own.
Olly kind of came to me first, because the other stories I'd read seemed to have an alpha male sort of prince or king. I wanted to flip that on its head and so Olly with his over the top, flamboyant, yet closeted in his sexuality - he kind of appeared to me. He's expressive, wears his heart on his sleeve, cheeky and flirty. In short, he was splendid fun to write! A sort of wish-fulfillment version of myself in some ways I think! I love an opposites attract trope - I've written it many times - so I wanted someone completely different from Olly. I also wanted some form of forced proximity because who doesn't love that in a romance, right? So I came up with Ezra, a bodyguard / security guard contractor. He is anti monarchy because he thinks it's an out-dated institution and a waste of money for the Meltivian people. He needs to take the job guarding the prince, because he really needs the money and it's too well paid for him to refuse. He's recently divorced so wants to work to ignore all the feelings he has about that. Ezra is quiet, doesn't talk about his emotions in the same way. At first I struggled with his conflict, and having discussed the story with my local writing group a good friend pointed out Ezra is a Jewish name and that homosexuality for some Jewish people, is viewed as an abomination. Boom! There was Ezra's conflict. And the rest of his upbringing in foster homes etc, flowed from there. I loved making up the country, and I explain more about that in the book's preface. I hope this has been interesting and please do grab yourself a copy on Amazon. thanks |
