He first appears as Kev's best friend in the Kev, adventures in dating...in heels series. Back in the 90s when that series is set, he works in TK Maxx, is a big Human League fan and endlessly unlucky in love.
He's the perfect counterbalance to Kev's sometimes over the top escapades in that series.
Tony also features in the ensemble story, The Regiment of Majestic Gays, when the men meet for Kieran's 36th birthday. While I'm talking about Kieran, he first appears in his own series, also set in the nineties, the first part is Kieran's Out.
Anyway, during that weekend for Kieran's birthday, Tony's date turns out badly and he decides to stop dating, stop hooking up and go completely off men. Except he's developing a friendship with a colleague, Nick. Tony wants more than friendship with Nick because they get on so well and he thinks they are attracted to one another. By his thirties, Tony is a social worker, and performs a drag act, linked to his obsession with The Human League, by night.
I'd left his story there, and then I decided after years of dreadful boyfriends, hookups and generally being unlucky with men, Tony deserved his own happy ever after. So I wrote Don't You Want Me. Obviously the title is linked to the Human League song, because Tony's always been a massive fan, turning to their songs for inspiration when he's unsure where to go in life.
Readers, I wrote it!
Don't You Want Me, is here for your enjoyment!
I hope you enjoy spending time with Tony and Nick as they work hard for their happy ever after.
Lots of love and light,
Liam Livings xx
